For the most part this first Cone 6 firing with the new thermocouple went well. There were some underfired pieces in the thick stacks of shelves near the bottom front. The satin matte white glaze was most affected. Two plates within 12” of each other on the bottoms shelf: one is fine. The other feels like chalk. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Live and learn.

I first fired my Paragon Dragon 24 kiln on February 12, 2015. 11 years, one month and 105 perfect firings later, on March 12, 2026 I had my first misfire. During the Cone 6 glaze firing, it shut down at 2,011 degrees instead of 2,210. There was an error code indicating power failure, and thermocouple. I contacted Pagagon, and bought a new thermocouple for $80. Installed it today and seems good to go! Great product, awesome customer support! #paragonkilns

Did I mention the salt and pepper shakers are still a bit of an experiment? The first ones I tried, the holes were way too big. This time I made them smaller, but after glazing I learned today I have to drill the glaze out of every hole. Fun! And still the glaze may flow and block them up during firing. If that happens I’ll have a bunch of funky sculptures for sale, CHEAP! 🤣😳😫#potteryfail #hopeful #handbuildingwithclay
